International monetary fund (IMF) says the world economy seems to be gaining momentum.

Writing in the IMF’s new world economic outlook, Chief Economist Maurice Obstfeldt forecasts global growth this year of  3.5 percent up from 3.1 percent predicted last year.

The IMF, however, said Sub-Saharan Africa’s economic growth is likely to only moderately exceed population growth.

That means correspondingly only moderate progress in raising average living standards in the region.
