Zimbabwe will participate at an international diamond conference in India starting this Sunday with a view to signing a joint cooperation agreement which will deepen trade relations in the diamond industry.

A high powered Zimbabwean delegation led by the Minister of Mines and Mining Development Cde Walter Chidhakwa has left Harare for India for the international diamond conference dubbed ‘Mines to Markets’ which is expected to attract global diamond stakeholders.

Besides officials from the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, officials from the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company and the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe are also part of the delegation which is eyeing to deepen areas of cooperation for the benefit of local gemstones industry.

Mines and Mining Development Minister Cde Walter Chidhakwa said besides attending the diamond conference, the delegation seeks to sign three agreements with India in relation to knowledge transfer.

India is one of the biggest markets for world diamonds and Zimbabwe has enjoyed favourable treatment as most of the gemstones find their way to Surat.
