A Mutorashanga couple who confined their disabled 13 year old daughter to a fowl run for six months has been handed an 18 month effective jail term each.
13 year old Esther Kazambaza, who is deaf and disabled was confined to a fowl run for about 6 months by her 40 year old father Last Kazambaza and 28 year old step mother, Beauty Kadzuramera.
She was deprived of love and was treated like a sub-human being all because she is disabled.
She would use the fowl run as her lodging and toilet and would share her food with chickens as she had no capacity to chase away the birds due to her disability.
Esther ’s father Last and her step mother Beauty have since been slapped with an 18 month effective jail term each by Chinhoyi Magistrate Letwin Rwodzi for child abuse.
Prosecutor Trust Mukarati advocated for a harsher sentence, arguing the child was deprived of love and other basic human rights such as the right to shelter, education and food.
The abused child is at Chinhoyi Hospital awaiting transfer to an orphanage to be determined by the social welfare department.
