Magistrates have been challenged to uphold high standards of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

The call was made by Chief Magistrate Mr Mishrod Guvamombe at the swearing in ceremony of three female magistrates in Harare.

Corruption has the potential to undermine justice delivery system and litigants remain on the receiving end.

Chief Magistrate Guvamombe said this at the swearing in ceremony of three female magistrates in the capital today.

The three are Perseverance Nkala, Amanda Muridzo and Isabel Nyoni.

Mr Guvamombe revealed that the economic challenges must not be an excuse for judiciary officers to engage in corrupt activities.

In their congratulatory messages, Acting Prosecutor General Advocate Ray Goba and president of the Law Society of Zimbabwe Mr Misheck Hogwe challenged the trio to accept criticism and be able to improve on the quality of judgements.

The swearing of the three female magistrates is another milestone achievement in promoting gender equality in the judiciary.
