A 27-year old Chinamhora man, Silent Nhamburo, has been slapped with a 20-year jail term after being convicted of raping his four year-old step daughter.
Nhamburo pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared before regional magistrate, Mr. Rodgers Kachambwa, who sentenced him to 20 years but suspended two years on condition that he will not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
Nhambura will effectively serve 18 years.
Delivering his sentence, Magistrate Kachambwa said a 4-year old has no capacity to consent to sex, saying his actions traumatised the minor, adding that a lengthy custodial sentence is justified.
The State, represented by Mrs. Valerie Ngoma, alleges that in December last year, Nhamburo raped the minor when his wife was not feeling well and told the complainant not to report the matter.
Nhamburo also raped the minor who was sleeping on the same bed with the couple when his sick wife was asleep.
The matter came to light when the child started discharging some yellow substance from her genitals, leading the complainant to investigate.
The minor narrated her ordeal, leading to the arrest of Nhamburo.
