Two Gwanda men who allegedly tried to sale fake gold worth $5 000 ended up in hospital after being thoroughly assaulted by the potential buyers for attempted fraud.

21 year old Give Gumede and Josiah Mlalazi also aged 21 learnt the hard way that crime does not pay after they were beaten to a pulp.

It is alleged that on the 29th of January around midnight, the two men visited   Walter Dengu at number 64 Senondo in Gwanda with the intention of selling him brass disguised as gold.

However, the gentleman’s handshake that the duo had envisaged after sealing the illegal deal turned to assault, when the potential buyer and his accomplices discovered the fraud attempt.

The two men were beaten with sjamboks, wooden sticks and iron bars resulting in them sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

Provincial police spokesperson Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident saying they are investigating a case of assault and fraud.

Chief Inspector Ndebele, however, appealed to the public not to take the law into their own hands but report any criminal cases to the police.

Meanwhile, the injured parties were taken to Gwanda Provincial Hospital for treatment and are due to appear in court for fraud and the gold buyers for assault.
