court.jpgThe 36-year old Chishawasha man, Douglas Jera who appeared in court on Monday facing charges of raping his 5-year old step daughter has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment.

Jera pleaded guilty to rape charges when he appeared before Regional magistrate Peter Kumbawa who suspended half of the prison term hence Jera will serve seven years behind bars.

In passing sentence Regional magistrate Kumbawa accepted Jera’s mitigation that he had taken an illicit brew known as Kenge and noted that the accused might not have committed the offence if he was in his sober senses.

Jera is alleged to have raped his step daughter after chasing away his wife following a domestic quarrel.
