The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says there were 119 road accidents recorded during the heroes’ holiday.

ZRP spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said 101 accidents were recorded during the same period last year while the number of people killed as a result was unchanged at thirteen.

Statistics also show that there has been an increase in the number of injured people with 11 casualties this year as compared to 84 last year.

Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Passenger Transport Organisation, Mr Leonard Mukumba also highlighted the need for operators to constantly adhere to the rules of the road to avoid loss of life.

The holiday period is normally associated with an increase in the number of accidents as a result of the swelling in traffic on the country’s roads.
