116 graduands have received competence certificates and Bachelor of Music Degrees at the Zimbabwe College of Music in Harare amid calls by the parent ministry for a unified education system in the country.
The graduands said the future is bright for they have big plans ahead.
The Director Zimbabwe College of Music, Dr Rachel Chigwanda said despite negative perceptions that the society has in the past about music, the college has remained resolute in its core business while the Vice Chancellor of Africa University Professor Munashe Furusha expressed his institution’s commitment to continue working with the institution in churning out qualified students.
Guest speaker at the graduation ceremony, the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Professor Amon Murwira said there is need for a unified education system in the country.
Of the graduands, 40 percent were women and is a huge gender mainstreaming effort that the college has embarked on to empower women in the music industry.
